MATT MAYS - WHEN THE ANGELS MAKE CONTACT...
A departure from Mays’ previous works, “When the Angels Make Contact…” is a brilliant masterpiece. The album is quite eclectic and ranges from acoustic ballads (Morning Sun), to solid rock tracks (850 Commando) and even morphs into electronica (Midnight is the Time) – vaguely reminding me of Neil Young’s ‘Transformer Man’ experiments. This album works. Lyrically, its strength comes from its simplicity. All in all, a no bullshit, cover to cover gem.
I had the good fortune to see this album performed live on Mays’ latest tour and in my opinion, it will only be a matter of time before he hits the mainstream. A gifted songwriter with a compelling voice who translates his energy to the stage with conviction – I look forward to whatever is next from MM+ET. |

MATT MAYS + EL TORPEDO
Matt Mays, a new artist from eastern Canada, has a refreshing sound for those who appreciate a good, cover to cover rock album. With a voice not dissimilar from Tom Cochrane and a songwriting style reminiscent of Tom Petty or Pete Droge, Matt Mays' new self titled CD is a worthy purchase. BLANCHE - IF WE CANT TRUST THE DOCTORS
I first came across the Detroit band Blanche late one night while flipping through the TV stations. A really strange video came on Much Music which immediately stopped my thumb from proceeding to the next station. The Video for Blanche’s “Someday” had my complete attention – it was so strange and if I didn’t know different, I would say it could have been directed by David Lynch.
To back up their moving images, their sound is one of the more unique sounds I’ve heard in ages. After seeking out and purchasing their CD “If We Can’t Trust The Doctors”, I was pleasantly surprised. An alternative sound with strong overtones of country and jazz, combined with their haunting, but beautiful lyrics – this CD is a must for any serious music collector.

NOFX - NEVER TRUST A HIPPY
This is a mini-release and a prelude to their 2006 release "Wolves in Wolves Clothing", which is due out in mid April. The disc is concise, however it is laden with raw, catchy and at times risky punk songs. Any punk lover or NOFX fan will not be disappointed.
